Well, that was fun!

Filmshift’s inaugural year was a Full On success!  Audiences loved the films, our volunteers ran a tight ship, we had great Q and A’s with the filmmakers, and we raised money and awareness for a few worthy causes!

All that, and we “kept local”!  Aside from our locally-owned sponsors and venues, we worked with Cambridge-based printers, Ambit Press and local designer Tonya Romanowski to create our programs and backdrop.  We worked with Somerville-based web design company, Truly Good Design to create our website, and locally-based graphic designer and artist, Rachel Brezel, to create our logo.  We rented our DVCam deck from the locally-owned Rule Camera here in Boston.  And our awesome filmmaker party, sponsored by Powderhouse Productions, was held at the locally-owned Somerville landmark, The Burren!

Once again, thanks goes out to our generous sponsors and venues…and thanks to Jesse at the Coolidge Corner Theater and Ian at the Somerville Theater (and their staff,) for all their help and support.

Award Winning Films Announced!

We are proud to announce our Award winning films, including our judges selections, audience awards, and student winners!

Thanks to our judges and to all of our filmmakers for their hard work and dedication.  We would also like to offer our congratulations to our winners and encouragement to all who submitted.

The winning films selected for the 2010 Filmshift Festival are as follows:

First Place: “Earthwork”

Our First Place winner receives a $500 cash prize and a copy of Jungle Software’s “Gorilla” budgeting for independent filmmakers. The cash prize will be provided by Filmshift and the software was generously donated by Jungle Software.

Second Place: “One Track Mind”

Our Second Place winner receives a copy of Jungle Software’s “Gorilla” budgeting for independent filmmakers.  Our Second Place winner will also receive a 12-month online subscription to Filmmaker magazine, provided by Filmshift. Jungle Software generously donated the software.

Third Place: “Split Estate”

Our Third Place winner receives a 12-month online subscription to Filmmaker Magazine, provided by Filmshift.

LA La Love Award

“Picture Day”

Presented to one promising LA-based Filmmaker. The award includes a one-time 25% discount on equipment rental from Wooden Nickel Lighting and a one-time 25% off discount from Atomic Production supply rentals. Along with the 20% HD camera equipment rental from Bunch/Casseday available to all who mention FilmShift, this is a very valuable prize to indie filmmakers shooting on a tight budget.

Shifty Uplifty Awards

Presented to no more than 5 films that uniquely inspire and uplift through the art of film. This award is also given to films that best exemplify the ideal that we should treat all people with respect, understanding, and compassion.

Our Second Place winner receives a copy of Final Draft screenwriting software, a 12-month Script Pipeline writers database subscription, and a 12-month Script Pipeline writers database subscription. All three prizes were generously donated by the respective companies.

Third Place: “The Door” by Robert Cox

Our Third Place winner receives a copy of Final Draft screenwriting software and a 12-month subscription to Script magazine. Both prizes were generously donated by the respective companies.

We are excited to announce the Official Selections of screenplays chosen for the First Round of the 2010 Filmshift Screenplay Competition.  We received works from across the nation, from 4 separate countries, and with topics and themes just as diverse.

Filmshift congratulates our writers who’s screenplays placed and is proud of all those who entered the competition.

(The next round of the competition is the Top 25.  Those screenplays will be announced in about a week or so).
