Calling all Filmmakers! Filmshift Festival 2012′s “Call For Entries” is open! If you or someone you know has a film, we want to see it! Our filmmaker awards are simply amazing this year, so now there’s even more reason to submit!:

We offer cash prizes totaling $1250 and awards from industry leaders such as Final Draft professional screenwriting software, free entry into Script Pipeline’s“pitch fest” and screenplay contest, as well as superlative awards.

Ten percent of the gross ticket sales are donated to Christopher’s Haven, a local charity that finds low-cost or no-cost housing for families staying in Boston for their child’s cancer treatment. The festival was created by independent filmmaker, Jeremy Jed Hammel, as a way to combine three of his passions: The art of film, bringing people together, and giving back to charity in his local community.

Filmshift is held every year at the Somerville Theater in Somerville, MA. They present independent films of most genres and have special Showcases for local films, student films, and films that have a connection to Environmental or Sustainable topics. Some films that

Filmshift has presented in the past include “Earthwork,” starring Academy-Award nominee, John Hawkes (for “Winter’s Bone,”) Comic Con 2010 winner, “Marwencol,” and “The Burning Season,” narrated by Hugh Jackman. Filmshift is seeking films that tell strong and unique stories.

Please add us on Facebook and share our info with your circle of friends, family, and colleagues, if that’s how you roll!

Thanks,

Well, that was fun!

Filmshift’s inaugural year was a Full On success! Audiences loved the films, our volunteers ran a tight ship, we had great Q and A’s with the filmmakers, and we raised money and awareness for a few worthy causes!

Scroll down to see a few photos from the festival, or join our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/filmshift to see photos from all of the 5 days!

All that, and we “kept local”! Aside from our locally-owned sponsors and venues, we worked with Cambridge-based printers, Ambit Press and local designer Tonya Romanowski to create our programs and backdrop. We worked with Somerville-based web design company, Truly Good Design to create our website, and locally-based graphic designer and artist, Rachel Brezel, to create our logo. We rented our DVCam deck from the locally-owned Rule Camera here in Boston. And our awesome filmmaker party, sponsored by Powderhouse Productions, was held at the locally-owned Somerville landmark, The Burren!

Once again, thanks goes out to our generous sponsors and venues…and thanks to Jesse at the Coolidge Corner Theater and Ian at the Somerville Theater (and their staff,) for all their help and support.

Super-Secret Thanks goes out to all of my volunteers! You My Favorite Yo!

Sincerely,

Jeremy Jed Hammel
